Saturday the 16th of December is the last kids class of the year as well as their grading. It's going to be a big day, because once the grading is complete we'll begin warming up for our first ever club sparring competition.
From 2pm onwards, we'll be running a friendly practice tournament among both the kids and adults. This informal 'competition' is a taster of the rules and format for the NZ national tournament that is happening next year. It's your chance as a student to see whether you might like to take on members of other clubs and compete in 2018.
The sparring will involve contact, so you can expect to wear a few blows. To offset this, we'll be providing protective headgear (and body pads for the kids), but anyone participating should also bring their own mouthguard, shinpads, and groin guard. If you have sparring mits or gloves, please bring those too.
Before we get into the fighting, James will explain the rules and hold a short 15 minute seminar on how the rounds will work. Anyone that wishes to take part needs to let James know before the end of November. This is so that I can draw up a roster, to keep the fights between students of similar size & experience.
The competition is open to any club member, regardless of age (so long as we have someone we can pair you against!)
But it's not all about the fighting. The comp should end at around 4pm. At 6:30pm we're going to meet at the Mexcian Cafe for some dinner and to celebrate the end of the year. Again, please RSVP to James so that he can provide accurate numbers to the venue ahead of time.
Schedule for the day:
- 12:15pm - 2pm: Kids classes - grading.
- 2pm - 4pm: Club sparring seminar & friendly competition.
- 6:30pm - onwards: club dinner at the Mexican Cafe.
Once more, please email or call James (021 858 600) to let him know whether you (or your child) will attend the competition and/or the dinner.
