The KMA Reset

Wed Sept. 23rd 2020

2020 has been a challenging year the world over. Certainly our classes have been disrupted multiple times, and the goals everyone has set (such as gradings) have been regularly moved or cancelled. It seems a long way from our club tournament at the end of 2019. All of this disruption can hurt our motivation as well as our fitness. So we're working on a 'reset' for the club and we've got a couple of ideas about how we'll do it.

Return to training for kids and adults

We have decided to re-start kids Hapkido on Saturday 17th of October (the first weekend in Term 4). Even though we've returned to level 2 in Auckland, many families are heading on holiday shortly and both the teachers and the kids need some time to get back into their training. Please use the time between now and then to work on fitness, self-discipline, and patterns at home.

Normal adult classes start again next week on Monday 28th September.

Training is free for the remainder of 2020

Yes, you read that right. We normally charge parents by the term, and adults monthly, for training - so many people have paid for classes they couldn't attend. We've crunched the numbers and we reckon it's fair to offer free training through to the end of the year, for anyone who has been a member in the last 12 months. We hope this provides some encouragement to get back into some training for either your kids or yourself.

That's right - no fees through to the end of 2020.

The only exception to this is for new members, who will get the same great deal they always get - pay for 3 months (or a term) and get a free uniform.

Grading & family challenges

We'll hold a grading in term 4, and we'll grade any adults at the same time as the kids so everyone gets to compare their skills. We haven't finalised the date yet - but will announce it as soon as we have we have.

We're also thinking of running some kind of fitness challenge - perhaps as a team event in or around Mt Eden - that we can hold on a weekend before the end of the year. We would finish the event with a BBQ/picnic, and maybe some games, to round off the year. Ideas for this are still being thrown around - and we're keen to get your thoughts too, so feel free to weigh-in.

Safety is our priority

We practice a contact sport - we literally fight each other - so safety is always in the forefront of our minds. No amount of pushups, however, can defeat a viral pathogen. There's also always a chance there'll be another outbreak in Auckland followed by another lockdown. Given the close and sweaty nature of what we do, we will always be looking to 'play it safe' - and we want to say that we appreciate your patience as we work through this. Our club is a community - and looking after each other is what we do.

Stay safe, keep fit, and we'll see you at training soon!
