Wear comfortable activewear like a t-shirt and shorts or track pants. Training is on mats, so bare feet are standard — no special uniform is needed for your first trial.
Having your first martial arts lesson can be daunting, especially if
you've never done anything like this before. Our instructors are there
to guide you through each exercise in a friendly and informative way. In
all of our classes we try to foster an atmosphere of trust &
respect among our students, even while they're training hard to out-do
each other with their techniques and strikes.
The best way to learn whether training at our club is right for you is to come along and see for yourself. Reach out by email, social media, or phone to let us know you'll be coming along, then join in for a month on us. We know its a commitment so why not try things out and get a real feel for the club.
When you arrive our instructors will give you an introduction, an opportunity to train with other club members, and some demonstrations of techniques.
Please contact Paul on 027 253 3139 or email us and we'll talk you through what to expect.
Once you're ready to join, click the button below and fill in the form. Our team of volunteers will do the rest.
Payment of fees is accepted by online banking, which you can do after filling in the online form. If you're signing up for the 3 month joining offer, the total fee is $150 (waged) or $90 (tertiary student/unwaged) for the full three‑month period. Our fee schedule and bank details are here.

Not at all. Many beginners start with little or no fitness background. Hapkido is a great way to build strength, cardio fitness, balance, and flexibility over time. Our martial arts classes for beginners will guide you through this process of getting fitter and stronger

The first month is free, after which we expect you to join for a three month period for $150 (waged) or $90 (tertiary student/unwaged). We normally do two gradings per year, about six months apart, along with occasional gradings in-between to accommodate those that can't make it to the scheduled tests. It takes around 4 years to earn your blackbelt with regular training.
We will provide your first uniform to you for free when you sign up for the three month joining offer! You can order additional uniforms online from several places. Try Auckland Martial Arts Supplies (www.amas.co.nz) or Zenjo (www.zenjo.co.nz), or feel free to ask us to put in an order on your behalf.
